LASIK Surgery Discount
Dear Faculty, Students, and Friends,
The UW Ophthalmology Department is offering UW faculty, staff, students, and any family members a wonderful opportunity to consider LASIK at nearly half price.
The surgery will be performed by one of our three senior ophthalmology residents (PGY-4) or the cornea fellow (PGY-5) this spring, most likely in April/May.
Dr. Sarah Nehls (http://ophth.wisc.edu/faculty/nehls), one of our faculty attendings with specialty training in cornea and refractive surgery, will supervise the entire procedure. The preoperative and postoperative care will also be under the supervision of Dr. Nehls.
The initial consultation with Dr. Nehls to determine if you are a candidate for refractive surgery is free of charge. The cost, should you be a candidate for LASIK eye surgery, is normally $2,100 per eye. If you elect to have a senior ophthalmology resident or the cornea fellow perform the procedure, the cost will be discounted to $1,100 per eye (only the facility fee is charged). Both eyes are routinely treated, so this would represent a total cost savings of $2,000.
While insurance plans do not cover LASIK, it is an itemized tax deduction and a qualified Flexible Spending Plan expense (FLEX/section 125 plan).
